Joanna Hyunji Kim

Korean/American Soprano Dr. Joanna Hyunji Kim held her debut recital at Carnegie Hall, wrapping up with a "well-deserved standing ovation." New York Concert Review praised her: "Dr. Joanna Kim's voice is rich and powerful, has impeccable musicianship, and a sensitive but intense interpretation of her text."

Born in the United States but raised in South Korea, Dr. Kim has performed internationally, including in the United States, South Korea, Italy, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Her aspiration is to advocate Korean art songs in the United States. Her doctoral lecture-recital on Korean diction and art song was nominated for the Lecture Recital Prize at Eastman School of Music. She presented this lecture recital at the Harvard Graduate Music Forum Conference and Robert Wesleyan University.

Dr. Kim enjoys teaching voice to all. While accommodating individual needs, her primary focus is to develop healthy vocal technique and encourage each singer to think critically as they discover their voices. Dr. Kim teaches as an Assistant Teaching Professor at the Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. In 2021, she established Senoreh Inc., which aims to restore the Biblical perspective through artistic excellence in the musical field.

Dr. Kim holds a Bachelor of Music from Ewha Woman’s University and earned a Master of Music with dual degrees in Voice Performance and Music Education at the Eastman School of Music. She subsequently completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance and Literature at Eastman.
